HALOBAK
Frequently Asked Questions
WHAT IS IT?
Computer/Server backup service, off-site, secure, reliable, automated.
Automatically back up your important data to an off-site location.
WHY DO I NEED IT?
Safeguard important data from viruses, hard drive failures, theft, fire,
hackers…
Maintain business continuity and operations in case of a computer disaster,
fire, flood, theft, etc…
HOW IS IT BETTER THAN WHAT I DO NOW?
-
Automated – Once configured, it runs automatically at the selected
schedules. No need to manually change tapes/media when they are full, or
when rotation is needed. Data is stored off-site. No need to remember to
take tapes to an off-site storage location.
- Safety – Backup data is stored off-site. Data is safe from disasters like
flooding, fire, theft, unauthorized access. Data is stored on redundant hard
drive arrays assuring constant reliability, as opposed to tape backups which
are easily damaged and have a very short shelf life.
- Security -
Data is encrypted before leaving your system, and is sent to our secure
datacenter using encrypted communications (similar to what the US
government and Banking institutions use). This assures that data cannot be
intercepted, modified, or otherwise tampered with once it leaves your
computers. Tape backups are usually not encrypted, and anybody with access
to the tapes can restore the data to any computer.
- Convenience - Data is accessible 24/7 either through our desktop
application, or using any computer with a web browser and access to the
Internet. Files are individually available for recovery, as opposed to
tapes, where it could take hours to find a specific file while the tape
forwards and rewinds to the specific file.
COST-EFFECTIVE? HOW?
With traditional backup methods you need to purchase expensive tape drives,
backup software, and backup media (tapes, cartridges, etc…). With our
service, you only pay a monthly fee, and only pay more as your backup needs
grow (storage space). Click here to view

HOW DO I DETERMINE MY NEEDS?
>>Personal account – good for home users or single computers.
>>SOHO/Small business – for home businesses, small businesses, or workgroups
of 2 to 10 computers and/or one server.
>>Enterprise – designed for large workgroups consisting of many workgroup
computers and many servers.

ISN’T MY CURRENT SYSTEM OK?
Typical backup methods rely on magnetic tape media. Magnetic tape media has
a very short shelf life, and most systems used in personal/small office
environments don’t do a good job at detecting tape anomalies and failures
when backups are being performed.
Most home/small businesses do not have an adequate backup and recovery plan
in place, and most of the ones that do have a backup plan in place do not
execute them properly, and when a failure occurs that needs restoration from the
backups, they find out that the tapes are unreadable, corrupt, or otherwise
unusable.
In enterprise environments, backup methods are usually extremely expensive,
and require a lot of time and labor to maintain.
