How It Works

Backup
- With our easy to
use desktop application, you can select multiple files and folders on
your hard drives (network drives too) to backup. You can also compress
and encrypt all the selected files for more efficient and secure storage.
All files are encrypted before they leave your computer or server.
- You can also backup files using the web based file manager. Simply log in
to our site with your user account from any computer connected to the
internet and you can select individual files to upload to your Halobak account.
Access
Once the files are backed up to our servers, you can access them immediately,
24/7, using our desktop application, or with the web based file manager.
The web based file manager allows you to have access to your backed up
files using a web browser from any computer connected to the Internet.
Restore
You can restore files and folders with the desktop application, or using
the web based file manager. The files are time-stamped for easier identification
of the backup date.
Schedule
You can create backup jobs using the desktop application and schedule
the backups to be executed at the selected intervals. You can schedule
backups to execute every hour, day, week, month, or many other combinations.
Once set, the backups run automatically without any further intervention
by the user. Even when the user is logged off the computer (computer running
the scheduled backup must be on)
Notifications
You can configure them to notify you of the completed backups through
email, or only if there was a problem. With this option you can be sure
the backups were successfully completed, or that an error occurred and
manual action must be taken to investigate the cause of the error. No
false sense of security.
Security
Halobak maintains a high level of security throughout its systems to maintain
the integrity of your data, and protect it from unauthorized use/access.
All Communications between the desktop application running on your computer/server
and our datacenter are encrypted using 128bit SSL encryption (same high
level security used by banks). When using our web based file manager,
the connection is also encrypted with 128bit encryption.
Optionally, you can choose to encrypt all the backed up files using the
Blowfish algorithm, and using a 448bit encryption key. Encryption is based
on a password that you supply. Files are encrypted on your computer/server
before they are transmitted to our datacenter. This ensures that the data
cannot be used, read, modified, or otherwise utilized without the original
password used to encrypt them.
Efficiency
Compression - The system makes efficient use of available bandwidth by
giving the user the option of compressing the individual files before
they are transferred to our datacenter.
Incremental Backup - Backups actions can be configured to only transfer
new files, or files that have changed since the last backup was made,
thus reducing the needed bandwidth. NOTE: The first full backup will be
take the longest time to complete, successive incremental backups are
faster since only changed files are backed up.
